Winter in the Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge area is a magical event you won’t want to miss! When the colorful Autumn leaves turn brown, then fall to the ground, and most of the trees are bare, you can clearly see the incredible outcropping of majestic rocks that have been hidden by foliage from March through November! Don’t miss the spectacular scenery this time of year! Grab your warm jacket, hat, gloves, and boots, and come explore the many hiking trails in the Kentucky Rockies with new eyes as you take in the magnificent rock formations and awe-inspiring mountain views along favorite trails such as Lover’s Leap at Natural Bridge Resort State Park or Angel Wings in the Red River Gorge. If you are lucky, you may find yourself gazing at an amazing panoramic view from a mountain top, like the new background picture on our website – taken from Chimney Rock Overlook in the Gorge after a January snowfall by renowned Kentucky photographer, John Snell. The way he captured the moon makes it look just like a star – a perfect reminder of what the holiday season is all about. Here is another winter scene he captured, featuring the emerald green waters of Swift Camp Creek in the Gorge.
We have something new for our cabin guests in Birch Hollow! If you don’t want to venture from your warm and cozy cabin to the Gorge or Natural Bridge, you can enjoy an invigorating (and less steep!) hike right in Birch Hollow itself! Roads throughout the Hollow were re-surfaced in early Fall, and new roads have been opened for great hiking at higher elevations close to your cabin. Do you have loved ones who have never been hiking? Bring them to the Hollow to explore the winding roads and try out the new trail, then return to your cabin to enjoy an evening by the outside fire pits (or the outside fireplace at Lakewood cabin) roasting marshmallows, and snuggle up to watch a favorite movie together before bed. For couples, what could be more romantic than a getaway with that special someone in winter, ending the day with a dip in the hot tub and a steaming cup of hot chocolate?
Call the office at (606) 663-0005 to find out how you can get a last-minute gift certificate for a getaway to Birch Hollow to put in a Christmas stocking or under the tree!! What a wonderful and unexpected gift that would be! Come see us during December, or book your cabin in December for next year to lock in your rates for a fabulous getaway in 2014!!
