Gorgeous View at Sunset in the Gorge

“We need the tonic of wildness…We can never have enough of nature.”

                                                              – Henry David Thoreau, Walden: Or, Life in the Woods

Do you remember the simple joy of being out in nature that you knew as a young child? You can re-discover the freedom and connection to the world around you that you once took for granted.  If you have no idea what that freedom and connection is all about, it’s time to experience it for the very first time.  Either way – come here to re-connect, or to connect for the first time ever – with the renewing power of nature – in the beautiful Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge State Resort Park in the Daniel Boone National Forest in Southeastern Kentucky, where life is still simple and nature is still untouched.

Spending time in nature, touching the rugged shapes of rocks, hearing the crunch of leaves under your feet and the sound of an owl or crickets, seeing a hawk fly overhead, running your fingers under a waterfall you suddenly discover when hiking, sharing the magnificent view of a full Kentucky moon on a cloudless night, smelling the sweet aroma of wildflowers – these experiences turn on those “feel good” sensations in our brains, heightening our connection to ourselves, to the Universe, and to those we love in a unique way unlike anything else we can do for our physical, mental, and spiritual health.  Nature has so much to teach us about how wondrous our world is!

Natural Bridge in the FallTake an invigorating hike or a relaxing sky lift to see the Natural Bridge arch from Lookout Point, then walk out onto Natural Bridge itself. This amazing sandstone arch has been here for over a million years, drawing visitors since 1889 to see this Kentucky wonder for themselves and to walk the magnificent arch with their own two feet! Gaze across the mountainous landscape to take in the beauty of Lookout Point, where you just stood minutes before, breathe in the fresh air and be inspired by the splendor of a mountain outcroppings that have not changed for millinneums! Imagine the millions of people from all over the world who have shared these stunning views and walked along the same paths before you over a century – many without the benefit of a sky lift to the top.  Join them in being amazed by Nature!

Guy at Lookout at SunsetMarvel at the raw beauty of mountains and forests against an orange sky at sunset, and feel the stress and worries of your life melt away in the awesome blend of light and color that we miss in crowded cities, and forget to stop and appreciate in our busy daily routine. You will notice that your breathing slows down and your spirit is nourished by the unfolding of a masterpiece by the hand of nature right before your eyes!  In quiet solitude, you may begin to find that inner child again, or begin to feel the first words of that book you were meant to write, that image you were meant to capture on canvas or through the eye of a camera, or the simple solution to a problem you have been struggling with.  Nature has a way of putting everything into perspective and reminding us to be grateful for the pleasure of seeing, hearing, smelling, and feeling the beauty of the natural world.  Sharing the spectacular views with those you love will create a memory that will return again and again throughout the years.

Listen for the soothing sounds of flowing brooks and waterfalls, catch a glimpse of amazing varieties of birds, butterflies, wild turkey and deer. Observe the petals of a Spring flower or the glorious colors of a Fall maple leaf. Hug a tree. Feed a duck. Start a conversation with a bird.  Fall View of Road and Creek in front of Brookside - Pretty
